Personalized nutrition therapy recognizes that we are all individuals with unique needs; this approach takes into account your characteristics, including genetic makeup, lifestyle, health status, and personal preferences to create a tailor-made diet strategy. The goal is to provide recommendations that are specifically designed to meet an individual's nutritional needs and health goals.

Here are some key considerations involved in personalized nutrition therapy:

1. Nutrition Status

2. Health Conditions

3. Lifestyle Factors

4. Personal Goals

5. Genetics

6. Food Sensitivities and Allergies

7. Preferences and Cultural Traditions

8. Monitoring and Modifying to Optimize Success

What can I expect when beginning personalized nutrition therapy?

The initial consultation appointment is comprehensive in nature. A holistic nutritionist often utilizes a series of questionnaires before the first appointment is even held. These forms are critical for ascertaining the information needed to discern potential nutrient imbalances or deficiencies, energy expenditure, health conditions and health history which may influence nutrition status and need. The initial appointment exists to provide clarification on the these factors, as well as help the nutritionist to better understand the individual’s goals, concerns, lifestyle, capacity for change, and personal history with food and health so that they may offer the most appropriate plan of care.

The initiation of a personalized plan may not be explained until subsequent appointments. Often times, however, ideas for small changes or modification to routine may be discussed during the first appointment with educational resources provided. Typically, a plan for the number of appointments in a series or frequency of check-ins is discussed, and the nutritionist may implement a series of dietary and lifestyle suggestions gradually, creating small, achievable milestones for the client to reach over time. By adding on customized adjustments gradually, larger lifestyle changes can be made more digestible, leading to increased likelihood of success!
